Born into a musical household, Eubanks. His younger brother Duane Eubanks plays the trumpet, and his older brother Robin Eubanks plays the trombone. Eubanks had violin, trumpet, and piano instruction at the Settlement Music School when he was in elementary school. Later, he studied music at Berklee College of Music.
Career
Eubanks collaborated with Roy Haynes, Art Blakey, Sam Rivers, and Slide Hampton after relocating to New York. He has performed on recordings with dual bassist Dave Holland, just like his brother Robin. In 1992, he rearranged to the West Coast to join as a guitarist in “The Tonight Show Band”. With Jay Leno’s “The Tonight Show” closing theme music was then composed by him.
Eubanks transferred with the group to organize music for the short-lived The Jay Leno Show when NBC swapped Leno’s program from night-time to prime time. When Kevin was 25, the Elektra label published his debut album as a lead guitarist. 4 albums for the “Blue Note” and a 7 album contract with the GRP label resulted as a result. He has contributed to more than 100 albums. Kevin established the record label Insoul Music in 2001.
In 2005, Eubanks’ alma institution, Berklee College of Music, awarded him an honorary doctorate. Since 1999, he has actively participated in the BMI Foundation’s Artistic Advisory Council.
