Career
Norman became a professional in 1976. He won his first tournament in Adelaide at the West Lakes Classic that year. He joined the European tour the next year and won the Martini International in Scotland. Norman won the French Open in 1980 and other European tournaments. After winning the British Masters, Norman went on to win several more and became the European tour’s leading money winner before joining the U.S.A PGA Tour. After a 45-foot putt at U.S. Open in 1984, Norman started to earn worldwide acclaim. Norman’s “Saturday Slam,” also known as the “Norman Slam,” was his 1986 breakthrough. Norman won all four majors in this year’s 54-hole season. The golfing community widely recognized Norman’s outstanding play throughout the year.
A few disappointments marred Norman’s career in the following years, but he rebounded in 1993 with coach Burch Harmon.
