Derek Jeter was born on June 26, 1974, in Pequannock Township, New Jersey. His father, Sanderson Jeter, used to play baseball at Fisk University in Tennessee as a shortstop. The Jeters moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan, when Derek was of 4. A year later, Jeter began playing minor-league baseball.
