April Ross was born in Newport Beach on 20 June 1982. She went to Newport Harbor High School. In addition to her lettering in track, Ross was a stellar indoor volleyball player at NHHS. She eventually became the top-ranked recruit in the country for her graduating classes. April Ross was a senior volleyball player who had 526 digs and 624 kills. She was a five-year member of the Orange County Volleyball Club’s club volleyball team. She was also on the U.S. Junior National Team.
Career
April placed third at the ConocoPhillips Grand Slam Stavanger, second at the Dubai Open, and first at the Phuket Thailand Open in 2008 alongside her beach partner Jennifer Kessy during the Swatch FIVB World Tour. Kessy and Ross defeated Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor, the top-ranked team in the world, at an AVP competition in California, that same year.
The next year, Kessy and Ross defeated Juliana Felisberta Silva and Larissa Franca of Brazil to win the FIVB World Championships in Stavanger, Norway. In the semi-final match of the 2012 London Olympics, the No. 4 seed duo of Kessy and Ross defeated Juliana and Larissa of Brazil, the No. 1 seed team, after dropping the first set. In 2013, Ross and Walsh-Jennings joined forces to prepare for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Behind Walsh Jennings’ block, Ross acted as a defender.
